Project name: SNHU Outdoor Repository (App)
Idea By: Dr. Joseph Corbin and Outing Club team
Design Lead: Samantha Longval
Approved By: Marlyn Tadros
Project Concept
The user value of this project will give not only SNHU’s Outing Club members ideas for future trips, but it will also give SNHU students the benefit of learning about the area they reside in/around and give them ideas to get them outdoors.
Business Objectives
Objectives include: increase membership of Outing Club, promote club and outdoor activities for students interested in exploring NH
User Value Proposition / Benefits
User can use the app to easily find outdoor activities and their proximity to SNHU. Rather than finding them each online, students can access it all in the same place. This allows for ease of use and can be used by Outing Club members in the future to plan trips/outings across NH.
UI Considerations
The application needs to be easy to use with limited sections. Implementing a search bar eliminates the students need to spend lots of time if they know where they want to visit.
Audience
The primary audience are SNHU students attending on campus who are interested in viewing areas. Other audience are the SNHU Outing Club members interested in planning trips for the club, but they are unsure where to look for ideas.
Assumptions and Research
Use research and information already created through the state’s webpages, i.e. State parks. Through using websites, brochures, or articles with many different options, this makes the research process simpler. By adding distance to SNHU, cost, or other information that may not be well-known, can give users all the information needed ahead of time.
Competitive Landscape
There is not necessarily an app I have found to be exactly like this, but there are some with similar elements. AllTrails is good for trail maps and reviews on difficulty of trails. Since this would be tailored to SNHU students, it would not have many competing against. If this were to become a bigger idea, the user could pick their location and the distances could be tailored from their house to the destination, like with Google Maps.
The Competitive Landscape is further outlined in the “Competitor Analysis” section.
