Hello, I am conducting research to determine the usability for my app. This app will consist of an Outdoor Repository for Southern New Hampshire University students looking for places to visit around campus. This repository will include places to visit, various activities, and gear stores/rentals. The key is to create an app that is easier to use than simply “Googling” places/activities, all in one place for students to access and future Outing Club trips to use as a basis for contacts and trips.

You will not be tested, but you are helping to test my app to see how well it works and where it needs adjustments. If you choose to help, you are allowed to end the test at any given time. For this test, I will give you three different tasks separately. Through “clicking,” you are able to explore areas of the app in order to complete these tasks. I will not be able to help you during the test, in order to see how successful my usability is for my app.

Do you have any questions before we begin?

Here is a consent form I would like you to fill out if you choose to take the test. (Hand out form on page 3). I will be recording you while you take the test, if you choose not to have your face recorded please say so now, and I will only record your hands. Full disclosure, recording your face and hands will help me see non-verbal ques, where you were confused, emotions, that may not be observed through recording only your hands. While recording, it is useful if you speak out loud each step you choose to take.

Thank you for being willing to participate in this test. Here are your tasks: (read one at a time and hand out written version on page 4 after reading aloud)

  1. Download trail map for Mt Major.
  2. Search for outdoor activities in Manchester, NH
  3. Explore outdoor gear stores throughout NH.
